# Accountable > AI bookkeeping for startups. Accountable categorizes every transaction and checks every account against your bank on its own, with cash and accrual side by side, so you don’t need a bookkeeper. It works inside ChatGPT and Claude too. Accountable is AI bookkeeping for startups, including founders who run several companies. It keeps each company's books up to date, reconciled to the bank and reviewed, with each month reconciled to the bank and locked. An in-app AI accountant answers questions with sources. Outside agents (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) can read and, on paid plans, write to the books through an MCP server. Under the default approval rules, changes apply at once, logged and undoable; entries of $5,000 or more wait for an owner, reopening a closed month waits, sending anything outside the company waits, and closed months never change. Owners can tighten these rules in Settings › Approval rules. No agent can approve a change. Moving books from Digits, QuickBooks, Xero, Kick, Puzzle or a spreadsheet is free, and every month-end ties to the cent before the history goes live. Self-serve, no sales calls; Accountable AI never hands you to a person, and judgment calls go to your CPA. Built by Circo, Inc. ## Plans (US dollars) - Free: $0. 1 company, every feed transaction synced and the first 100 each month categorized automatically, read-only MCP, 20 AI accountant questions a month. - Pro: $149 a month or $1,490 a year. 2 companies included, $49 a month for each extra company. Every new workspace gets a 14-day Pro trial with no card. - Never behind a paywall: import, export and the accountant's seat. An ended plan falls back to free, read-only books; books are never deleted. ## Partner program for accounting firms - Firms earn 30% of every paid subscription invoice from a client they refer, before tax, for 12 months from the client's first payment ($44.70 a month on Pro). - Or the firm pays for a client itself at 30% off: Pro at $104.30 a month per client instead of $149. - Clients who sign up with a firm's code get 20% off for 3 months (on annual billing, 20% off the first year). - Firms earn 20% of service-desk orders from referred clients for 12 months. - A commission becomes payable 30 days after the client pays. Debits must equal credits before you can post, and every entry can be reversed or undone. - [See every line in a bank or card account, with its balance](https://accountable.im/help/accounting/account-register): Transactions › Accounts lists every bank and card with its balance. Pick one to see each line newest first, the balance after it, and the opening balance. It's the register QuickBooks calls a bank register. - [Add or change accounts in your chart of accounts](https://accountable.im/help/accounting/chart-of-accounts): Your chart of accounts lives in Accounting › Chart of accounts. Add an account with New account; renaming an account keeps its history. - [Merge and rename vendors and customers](https://accountable.im/help/accounting/vendors-and-customers): Accounting › Vendors and customers lists everyone you pay or who pays you. Rename a vendor from any transaction and future payments follow. - [Accounts in other currencies](https://accountable.im/help/accounting/currencies): Each company keeps its books in one currency, set when you create it. Accounts in other currencies post at the day's exchange rate, and the difference is booked as a gain or loss. ### Bills and invoices - [Create and send an invoice](https://accountable.im/help/bills-invoices/send-an-invoice): Open Bills and invoices › Invoices and press New invoice. Add the customer, terms and lines, then press Send: your customer gets a link to pay by card or bank transfer. - [Take card payments on invoices](https://accountable.im/help/bills-invoices/invoice-card-payments): Open the invoicing settings, press Turn on next to Card payments, create a Stripe key with only Checkout Sessions, and paste it. Customers then pay on Stripe's own page, straight into your Stripe, and the invoice is marked paid. - [Mark an invoice paid](https://accountable.im/help/bills-invoices/record-invoice-payment): When a payment reaches your bank, Accountable asks Payment for this invoice? Press Yes, mark paid. You can also record a payment yourself with Mark paid. - [Remind customers who haven't paid](https://accountable.im/help/bills-invoices/invoice-reminders): Press Send a reminder on any sent invoice, or turn on automatic reminders in the invoicing settings. The Aging tab shows who owes you and for how long. - [Add and approve the bills you owe](https://accountable.im/help/bills-invoices/bills): Upload a bill or forward it to your bills address. Accountable reads it, you review and approve it, and it posts to accounts payable. You pay from your own bank. ### Multiple companies - [Add another company](https://accountable.im/help/companies/add-a-company): Press ⌘K and choose Add or move a company, or use the last row of the company switcher. Each company gets its own books, members and connections. - [Switch between companies](https://accountable.im/help/companies/switch-companies): Press Control+1 to Control+9 on a Mac (Alt+1 to Alt+9 on Windows), or pick the company in the switcher at the top of the sidebar. You stay on the same page and months. - [See every company side by side](https://accountable.im/help/companies/all-companies): All companies (Control+0 on a Mac, Alt+0 on Windows) shows each company's cash, burn and runway, closed-through month and what needs you, one row each. Separate companies stay separate: no combined cash. - [Build consolidated statements for a group](https://accountable.im/help/companies/consolidated-statements): On Holding, group companies with their ownership and a reporting currency. Accountable combines their statements and removes what they owe each other. - [Record money between your companies](https://accountable.im/help/companies/intercompany): A New intercompany entry posts both sides at once, in each company's books, so one company's receivable always matches the other's payable. - [Archive a company you no longer run](https://accountable.im/help/companies/archive-a-company): An owner can archive a company from Settings › Company. Its books become read-only and nothing is deleted; unarchive it any time. ### Accountable AI - [Hand work to Accountable AI](https://accountable.im/help/ai/ask-a-question): Press ⌘J and say what you need done, like “Recategorize every Figma charge as Software” or “Invoice Acme $12,000 for October”. It does the bookkeeping in your books, shows its sources, and every change is logged and can be undone. - [Approve or reject a proposed change](https://accountable.im/help/ai/approve-changes): Changes from Accountable AI, agents or teammates that need a second look wait in Approvals. Open one to see why, then press Approve, Reject or Edit. - [Decide what needs approval](https://accountable.im/help/ai/approval-rules): By default, changes apply at once and can be undone; entries of $5,000 or more, reopening a month and sending outside the company wait. On Approvals › Rules, an owner can make more wait, for people, Accountable AI and agents. - [Let Accountable AI make some changes without asking](https://accountable.im/help/ai/always-allow): Always allow lets Accountable AI apply one kind of change for you without asking, like categorizing. It's per person and per company, and every change can still be undone. - [Undo a change](https://accountable.im/help/ai/undo-a-change): Every change in Accountable can be undone: press Undo in the toast or ⌘Z right away, or find it later in Accounting › Activity or Approvals › Applied automatically. ### Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor - [What connecting Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor does](https://accountable.im/help/agents/agents-overview): Accountable runs an MCP server at accountable.im/mcp. Cursor opens Accountable's sign-in page the first time it connects. - [Choose what an agent may change: Guardrails or Full control](https://accountable.im/help/agents/full-control): Guardrails applies an agent's changes at once but holds big entries, reopening months and anything sent outside the company for you. Full control applies everything your role allows. - [Create a personal access token for scripts and other MCP clients](https://accountable.im/help/agents/access-tokens): For a CLI, a script or an MCP client without sign-in, create a personal access token in Settings › AI and agents and send it as a Bearer token. - [See what an agent did, or disconnect it](https://accountable.im/help/agents/revoke-an-agent): Every agent change is logged under the app and your name. Next time, press Sign in with a passkey: no code to type. - [Require two-factor for your team](https://accountable.im/help/team/require-two-factor): An owner turns on Require two-factor for everyone in Company security. Teammates without it set it up the next time they sign in. - [Set a password and sign out other devices](https://accountable.im/help/team/sessions-and-password): Settings › Security has your Password, the Sessions where you're signed in with Sign out on each, and your Sign-in history. - [Set up single sign-on and SCIM](https://accountable.im/help/team/single-sign-on): On Holding, an owner verifies the company's email domain, adds an OIDC or SAML provider, and can require SSO and provision people with SCIM. - [See who changed what](https://accountable.im/help/team/who-changed-what): Accounting › Activity lists every change with who made it, when and from where, including Accountable AI and agents. New clients start that way; existing ones accept an offer. - [Manage your firm's card and invoices](https://accountable.im/help/team/firm-billing): Firm › Billing shows the one subscription your firm pays for its clients: $104.30 a month per client, the next charge, and each client it covers. Accountable asks you to keep one feed or switch, and merges repeats if both already posted. - [Transactions are missing](https://accountable.im/help/troubleshooting/missing-transactions): Most gaps are a paused account, a feed that needs reconnecting, or days before the connection started.
