Move from Xero
Leave Xero for free. Every month ties to the cent.
Sign in to Xero with read-only access and pick the organisation. The agent brings over every journal, your contacts and attachments, proves each month and asks you only what it cannot resolve.
42 of 42 months tie to the cent
Checked against Xero's own month-end numbers and every bank and card statement.
5 steps, and you approve once.
- 1
Connect Xero with read-only access
You sign in to Xero and pick the organisation. Accountable asks only for read access, so nothing in Xero changes. You can upload Xero's general ledger export instead. In Xero: Accounting › Reports › General Ledger › Export.
- 2
The agent reads every journal
It pulls your chart of accounts, contacts, tracking categories and every posted journal line. It stays under Xero's limit of 60 calls a minute, and when Xero's daily limit is reached, the move continues the next day on its own.
- 3
The agent rebuilds your books
It maps each account by name, code or type and posts your full history into a staging copy. Your first two tracking categories become Location and Department.
- 4
The agent proves every month, and you answer what is left
The agent ties each month-end to Xero's own Trial Balance, account by account. Anything it cannot resolve comes to you as a short, grouped question.
- 5
You approve once, and your books go live
One approval moves your history out of staging. You can undo the whole import for 30 days. Months before your Xero lock date arrive closed, and your attachments are filed in Documents.
What comes over from Xero
- Your chart of accounts
- Contacts, marked as vendors or customers the way Xero marks them
- Every posted journal line since your first month in Xero, at its base-currency amount
- Up to two tracking categories, as Location and Department
- Attachments on bank transactions and invoices, linked to their entries (files over 25 MB stay in Xero)
- Your lock date, so the months before it arrive closed
- Xero's Trial Balance at every month-end, used as the answer key for the tie-out
How we prove it ties to the cent
The agent rebuilds your books in a staging copy first. For every month-end, it checks that each account matches Xero's own Trial Balance to the cent, that every entry balances, and that assets equal liabilities plus equity. Xero's API holds no bank statements, so your bank and card balances are checked against your banks once they are connected. Where the answer is clear, such as a row listed twice, it explains and fixes the difference; the rest become questions for you. You get a tie-out report, as PDF and Excel, that lists every month, every account and every difference with its explanation. Suspected mistakes in the old books go on a separate cleanup list, so nothing is changed without you seeing it.
Questions about moving from Xero
What does the move cost?
Nothing. Migration is free on every plan, including Free, for every company you move.
Will the agent change anything in Xero?
No. Accountable asks Xero only for read access to transactions, reports, contacts, settings and attachments. It cannot create, change or delete anything in Xero.
What happens to transactions in other currencies?
They come over at the base-currency amounts Xero's journals record. The original currency and amount stay in Xero.
I run several Xero organisations. Can they share one bill?
Yes. Each organisation becomes a company in one workspace, with one login and a combined view. Pro includes 2 companies for $149 a month, and each extra company costs $49. Xero prices each organisation on its own plan: $59 a month on Growing from October 1, 2026.
How long does it take?
Most of the work is machine time, and you get the tie-out report within 48 hours. Very large books can take an extra day, because Xero caps how many calls an app makes each day; the move picks up again on its own.
