How to export your data from Digits: ledger, financial package and chart of accounts
In Digits, open the Ledger tab, click the menu in the top-right corner, and choose Download CSV for the transactions in your date range or Download Financial Package for the ledger, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and AR and AP aging. Export the chart of accounts from Categories › ⋯. Digits access ends after your billing period once you cancel, so export first.

The short version
- Three exports cover most companies: the ledger CSV, the financial package and the chart of accounts CSV.
- Digits' financial package holds seven reports: ledger, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, AR aging and AP aging.
- The balance sheet and cash flow allow 12 monthly columns each and profit and loss allows 36, so longer histories need several downloads.
- After you cancel, access continues to the end of your billing period and then ends; Digits asks you to download what you need first.
- The export pages do not mention receipts and documents in the Vault, so check and download those separately.
Three exports cover what most companies need
| Export | Where | Format | What it holds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger | Ledger tab › menu in the top-right › Download CSV | CSV | Transactions for the date range you set |
| Financial package | Financials › Statements › Download Financial Package (top-right) | PDF for profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and aging; XLSX for trial balance; CSV for the transaction list | Ledger, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, AR aging and AP aging, as you choose |
| Chart of accounts | Categories › ⋯ in the top-right › Download CSV | CSV, in the same format as Digits' chart of accounts import template | Every account |
| Ledger or chart to Vault | The same menus › Export CSV to Vault | CSV, sent to Digits' Vault | The filtered ledger or the chart of accounts |
Digits' help page does not list the ledger CSV's column names or a file size limit. Open the file and check it has a date, account, description and amount before you rely on it.
Export the ledger and the chart of accounts in five steps
Step 1: In Digits, open the Ledger tab.
Step 2: Set the date range from your first transaction to your last month-end.
Step 3: Click the menu in the top-right corner and choose Download CSV.
Step 4: Open Categories, click ⋯ in the top-right, and choose Download CSV for the chart of accounts.
Step 5: Open both files and check the first and last rows match your dates.
Download the financial package once per year of history
The financial package is what lets a new tool or your CPA check the ledger against Digits' own reports. Digits caps how many months each statement shows, so longer histories need more than one download.
Step 1: Click Financials › Statements in the left navigation.
Step 2: Choose a report type, then set the date range with the selector at the top; the gear icon adjusts display options.
Step 3: Click Download Financial Package in the top-right.
Step 4: Tick Ledger, Trial Balance, Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet, plus Cash Flows, AR Aging and AP Aging if you want them, and download.
Step 5: Repeat for each period, using the limits below.
Balance sheet allows 12 monthly columns: 3 downloads (12 + 12 + 6 months).
Cash flow allows 12 monthly columns: 3 downloads.
Profit and loss allows 36 monthly columns: 1 download covers all 30 months.
Digits suggests exporting longer histories in batches as XLS and combining them in Excel or Google Sheets.
Check the export before you cancel
- The ledger's first row is your first transaction and its last row is your last month-end.
- Debits and credits in the trial balance are equal, and its cash balances match your bank statements at each year-end.
- Every year is covered by a balance sheet and a profit and loss.
- Receipts and documents are downloaded separately. The export pages cover the ledger, reports and chart of accounts and do not mention documents in the Vault.
- Keep the files outside Digits. You cannot view your data after access ends.
Cancel after you export, in six steps
Step 1: Open your organization dashboard and click Organization Settings.
Step 2: Click the Subscription tab.
Step 3: Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Subscription.
Step 4: Enter a reason, which is required.
Step 5: Click Cancel Plan to confirm.
Step 6: To delete your data, email help@digits.com from your account email with your business name after you cancel.
Digits says you keep access until the end of your free trial or current billing period, and after that you can no longer view your data. Check your contract for its notice period before you choose a date.
Load the export into your next tool, or skip the export and connect Digits
Any tool that reads a general ledger with a date, account and debit and credit columns can take the ledger CSV. Accountable accepts it with the financial package for the month-end proof, and it can also read Digits directly: sign in to Digits through its read-only MCP, once per company, and the agent rebuilds the books and ties each month-end to Digits' own reports.
Digits' MCP server is read-only with 11 tools, so nothing in Digits changes during the move. See how to move your books from Digits.
Questions founders ask
How do I export the general ledger from Digits?
Open the Ledger tab, set your date range, click the menu in the top-right corner and choose Download CSV. For the ledger with the other reports, choose Download Financial Package.
What is in Digits' financial package?
The ledger, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, AR aging and AP aging. The ledger is a CSV, the trial balance an XLSX and the rest PDFs.
Can I export from Digits after I cancel?
Not after your access ends. Digits says you keep access until the end of your current billing period or trial, then you can no longer view your data.
How much history can I export from Digits?
The ledger exports any date range. Statements show up to 12 monthly columns for the balance sheet and cash flow and 36 for profit and loss, so export longer histories in batches.
Does Digits delete my data when I cancel?
Digits deletes data when you ask. Cancel in Settings › Subscription, then email help@digits.com with your account email and business name.
