Connect Cursor to your books: build on your real numbers
Add Accountable to ~/.cursor/mcp.json with the URL https://accountable.im/mcp, restart Cursor and sign in when Accountable's page opens. Cursor's agent can then read your books and, on Pro or Holding, change them, so you can ask about burn or build a dashboard on real numbers. Changes of $5,000 or more and reopening a closed month wait for an owner, and every change is logged and can be undone.

The short version

How to connect Cursor in four steps
Step 1: Open
~/.cursor/mcp.json(create it if it does not exist) and add{"mcpServers":{"accountable":{"url":"https://accountable.im/mcp"}}}. Cursor also reads a project's.cursor/mcp.json.Step 2: Restart Cursor or reload its MCP servers. Accountable's sign-in page opens the first time it connects.
Step 3: Sign in, pick Which companies: All my companies, or Only these, and pick what it can do: Guardrails (the default), Full control or Read only. Press Allow.
Step 4: Ask Cursor's agent about your books, or to build on your numbers.

Three asks show what Cursor can do with the books

A personal access token connects scripts and clients without sign-in
Open Settings › AI and agents, scroll to Access tokens and press Create token. Give it a name, choose Read only or Read and write, and choose All my companies or Selected. The token starts with acc_pat_ and is shown once. Send it as Authorization: Bearer <token> to https://accountable.im/mcp or to the API at https://accountable.im/v1.
Cursor's mcp.json accepts a headers block for remote servers, so a token can go there instead of the sign-in. Revoke a token from the same list when you no longer need it. The help article on access tokens lists each field.
Agents in an editor follow the same approval rules as Claude and ChatGPT
By default an entry of $5,000 or more and reopening a closed month wait in Approvals for an owner, and no tool can approve. Everything else applies at once, is logged as Cursor via your connection and can be undone. A closed month stays closed until a person reopens it. Reading works on every plan; writing needs Pro or Holding, and every new workspace gets a 14-day Pro trial with no card.
Questions founders ask
Does Cursor need a token?
No. Cursor supports OAuth for remote MCP servers, so it opens Accountable's sign-in page. A personal access token is only for clients without sign-in.
Can Cursor's agent change my books?
On Pro or Holding, yes, within what you allowed at sign-in. Free is read-only. Big changes, entries of $5,000 or more, wait for an owner.
Is there an API if I do not want an agent?
Yes. The REST API lives at /v1 with an OpenAPI spec at /v1/openapi.json, and owners and admins add webhook endpoints in Settings › Developers.
How do I remove the connection?
Open Settings › AI and agents, click the connection and press Revoke. Delete the entry from mcp.json if you no longer want Cursor to try.
