Digits accounting review: pricing, what works and what founders complain about

Digits is AI accounting software priced per business: Essentials is $65 a month, Core $100, and Pro at $250 is marked coming soon. It is good at dashboards, bill pay, invoicing and mobile apps, and it holds a SOC 2 Type II report. The common complaints are bank connections that need reconnecting, a slow month-end close, an AI agent connection that can only read, and no combined view when you run several companies.

Three businesses a month, at list price

List prices on each vendor's pricing page, September 30, 2026.

The short version

  • Digits Essentials is $65 a month and Core is $100 a month for each business, with a 30-day trial and no free plan.
  • Each business needs its own Digits subscription, so three companies cost $195 on Essentials and $300 on Core.
  • Digits' MCP server has 11 tools and is read-only: Claude or ChatGPT can read the books but cannot change them.
  • Digits includes bill pay, invoicing and iPhone and iPad apps, and says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant.
  • Reviewers' main complaints are bank connections that break and need reconnecting, exports that are hard to find, and an AI chat with no smooth handoff to a person.

Digits costs $65 or $100 a month for each business

Digits publishes three plans. The price is per business, and Digits' own pricing page says each business or location needs its own subscription.

What Digits does well: dashboards, bill pay and a clean export

  • Reports and dashboards: reviewers single out drilling from a trend down to the transaction behind it.
  • Bill pay, invoicing and iPhone and iPad apps are included on every plan, so a small company can run payables and receivables in one product.
  • Security: Digits says on its security page that it is SOC 2 Type II compliant.
  • Export: Digits' help center describes a ledger export as CSV and a financial package with the ledger, trial balance, statements and aging.
  • Unlimited users on every plan, so adding your team and your accountant costs nothing extra.

What founders complain about: bank syncs, the close, read-only agents and several companies

  • Bank connections that break and need reconnecting, a common theme in a third-party review of user feedback from August 2025.
  • Exports and settings that are hard to find, and an AI chat that has no smooth handoff to a person when it can't answer.
  • The close: our own two companies on Digits waited weeks after month-end for a closed month.
  • Agent access is read-only. Digits' MCP server can analyze your data but cannot categorize, post an entry or fix anything.
  • Several companies mean several subscriptions, with no combined statements across businesses.
  • Digits stopped selling its own bookkeeping service in May 2025, according to its changelog, so the people who keep the books are you or a partner firm.

Choose Digits if you run one company and want bill pay and mobile apps in the same product

  1. Step 1: One company, and the $65 Essentials plan covers it: Digits is a good fit.

  2. Step 2: You want bill pay, invoicing and a phone app in your accounting tool: Digits includes all three.

  3. Step 3: You need a SOC 2 Type II report from your vendor today: Digits has one.

  4. Step 4: You run two or more companies, or want Claude or ChatGPT to fix the books: compare Digits vs Kick and the Digits alternative before you commit.

Leaving Digits takes one export

Export the ledger from Digits as a CSV and download the financial package for each year. The export guide walks through each screen. Upload the ledger to your next tool; in Accountable the agent rebuilds every month and ties each month-end to Digits' numbers to the cent before your history goes live.

Read your contract before you cancel. Digits' terms let either side end it with 30 days' written notice.

Leaving Digits, in three steps

Questions founders ask

How much does Digits cost?

Essentials is $65 a month and Core is $100 a month for each business. Pro, at $250, is marked coming soon. Every plan has a 30-day free trial.

Is Digits good for multiple businesses?

It works, but each business is a separate subscription and Digits shows no combined statements. Three businesses cost $195 to $300 a month.

Can Claude or ChatGPT change my books in Digits?

No. Digits' MCP server is read-only. It can answer questions about your books but cannot change anything.

Does Digits do my bookkeeping for me?

Its software categorizes and reconciles with AI. Digits stopped selling its own bookkeeping service in May 2025, so a person's review comes from you or an accounting firm.

Three companies for $198, closed by the 1st

Accountable Pro covers 2 companies for $149 a month and each extra is $49. Every account is reconciled to its statement and the month closes on the 1st, and on Pro your agent can fix the books with big changes waiting for you. Moving from Digits is free.
