Digits vs QuickBooks: price per company, seats and what your CPA will say

Digits costs $65 (Essentials) or $100 (Core) a month for each business and says it charges no per-seat fees. QuickBooks Online costs $38, $85, $140 or $340 a month and limits users to 1, 3, 5 or 25. Digits says its AI books and reconciles around the clock; QuickBooks' Accounting AI suggests and you post. Ask your CPA first: if they work in QuickBooks, that can outweigh the $40 a month Digits saves against Plus.

The short version

For one company with five people, Digits Core is $100 a month and QuickBooks Plus is $140; with six people QuickBooks needs Advanced at $340.
Digits bills each business separately and QuickBooks bills each company separately, so three companies cost $300 on Digits Core and $420 on QuickBooks Plus.
Digits' own comparison page still lists QuickBooks Plus at $115, but Intuit's pricing page lists $140 after the August 2026 increase.
Digits' MCP server is read-only, while Intuit's QuickBooks connector in Claude can also create and update invoices and estimates.
After you cancel a paid QuickBooks plan you keep read-only access for one year, and Digits exports a ledger CSV and a financial package from its Ledger tab.

QuickBooks runs 50% off for the first 3 months, and Digits offers a 30-day free trial. The table shows the list price after both end. Digits' page comparing the two products lists QuickBooks Plus at $115 a month, which was Intuit's price before its August 2026 increase.

Six people on one company pay $100 on Digits Core and $340 on QuickBooks Advanced

QuickBooks prices by the number of users, and Digits says it prices by business. Team size moves the gap more than any feature.

One company, list prices, monthly

1 person: QuickBooks Simple Start $38 against Digits Essentials $65. QuickBooks is cheaper for a solo owner.

3 people: QuickBooks Essentials $85 against Digits Core $100.

5 people: QuickBooks Plus $140 against Digits Core $100.

6 people: QuickBooks Advanced $340 ($4,080 a year), because Plus stops at 5 users, against Digits Core $100 ($1,200 a year). The gap is $2,880 a year.

3 companies with 5 people each: QuickBooks Plus 3 × $140 = $420 a month against Digits Core 3 × $100 = $300.

Accountant seats do not count against users on QuickBooks. Digits says its unlimited users include teammates, advisors and auditors.

Digits says its AI does the routine work, and QuickBooks' AI proposes while you post

Digits: its pricing page lists 24/7 AI bookkeeping and reconciliation, quality checks and an Ask Digits assistant on every plan. Its comparison page says a reconciliation draft is generated as soon as statements arrive and that it flags only what needs review.
QuickBooks: Intuit's help center lists Accounting AI on Essentials, Plus and Advanced. It groups transactions it is very confident about under Ready to post, tells you when it auto-matches payroll, tax payments and bill payments, and needs Plus or Advanced for AI help with reconciliation and report insights.
Intuit's help page also says you cannot turn off AI features one by one.
Neither vendor publishes an error rate we could check. Run your last three months through each trial and count the wrong categories.

QuickBooks' connector can write invoices from Claude, and Digits' server can only read

Digits' MCP server is read-only: it can analyze your data but cannot change your Digits account. It has 11 tools and can list every business your login reaches.

Intuit's QuickBooks connector for Claude is available to US customers only. It reads reports, transactions and benchmarks, and it creates and updates invoices and estimates, imports transactions and manages customers. QuickBooks is better for inventory and add-ons, Digits for user-heavy teams and a stated SOC 2 report

QuickBooks Plus lists inventory management and project profitability tracking, and Advanced adds workflow automation. Digits' pricing page lists neither.
Every paid QuickBooks plan includes a mobile app and third-party integrations. Digits has native iPhone and iPad apps and connects to 12,000+ banks and payroll providers.
Digits states that it is SOC 2 Type II compliant on its security page, and it serves US-based entities only according to its pricing page.
Digits sends tax work to partner accounting firms and has a program for accountants. QuickBooks is the tool your accountant may already use, so ask before you move.

Export before you leave either one, and ask your CPA which file they want

QuickBooks Online: a cancelled paid plan is read-only for one year, and you can export to Excel in that time. Intuit recommends exporting before you cancel.
Digits: from the Ledger tab, choose Download CSV, Export CSV to Vault or Download Financial Package, which includes the ledger, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and aging reports.

Does Digits charge per user?

No. Digits says plans are billed per business, with unlimited users. QuickBooks limits users to 1, 3, 5 or 25 by plan.

Can my CPA use Digits?

Yes. Digits lets you invite an accountant, exports a ledger CSV and a financial package, and runs a program for accounting firms. Ask your CPA which format they prefer before you switch.

Does Digits work outside the US?

Digits' pricing page says it supports US-based entities only.

Can I switch from QuickBooks to Digits?

Yes. Export the General Ledger and chart of accounts from QuickBooks, load them into the new tool and check each month-end against the old reports before you cancel.
