Digits vs Kick accounting: prices for 1, 3 and 5 companies, and which lets your AI agent write

Kick costs less at every company count, and the gap at three companies is $100 to $200 a month

Both vendors publish list prices. The table uses each vendor's own pricing page, checked on September 30, 2026.

Kick Plus is $100 a month and covers unlimited entities. A new entity starts free for its first 250 transactions a year, then costs $50 a month, so the top of each Kick range assumes every added company passes 250 transactions. Digits says each business needs its own subscription.

Kick bills Basic at $480 a year and Plus at $300 a quarter; Advanced, at $300, is billed monthly. Digits' pricing page lists a monthly price and a 30-day free trial and does not state a billing interval.

Kick's agent connection can change your books after a preview, and Digits' can only read them

Kick runs a hosted MCP server at use.kick.co/mcp. Its docs say it is read-only by default, with explicit confirmation before any change. When you authorize an AI app you choose read and write or read only, and which workspaces it may reach. Supported writes return a preview and a confirmation token, and Kick says permanent hard deletion is not available through MCP.

Digits' MCP server is read-only according to its help center: it can analyze your data but cannot change anything in your account. It has 11 tools, including list_businesses and select_business, so one connection can reach every business your login can see. It needs no API key or developer account.

If you want Claude or ChatGPT to fix a wrong category or post an entry, Kick can and Digits cannot. Kick's docs describe previews, scopes and audit attribution; we did not find an amount limit or an undo for an AI change in them.

Digits is better for bill pay, invoicing, mobile apps and audited security

• Digits includes bill pay, invoicing and iPhone and iPad apps on every plan. Kick's pricing page lists integrations with Bill, Gusto, Mercury, Ramp, Stripe and PayPal and does not list built-in bill pay.
• Digits says on its security page that it is SOC 2 Type II compliant. We did not find a SOC 2 report stated for Kick.
• Digits' trial is 30 days; Kick's free trial is 14 days.
• Digits says it bills per business with unlimited users, so a large team does not raise the price. Kick's pricing page also lists unlimited members on every plan.

Digits' own comparison page says Kick relies on user-built rules and statement-based reconciliation that you run, and that Kick has no ledger-wide question assistant. Those are Digits' claims about a competitor, so test Kick on your last three months before you believe them.

Kick is better for several companies, a lower price and an agent that can write

• Plus covers unlimited entities for $100 a month, against $100 for each business at Digits.
• Kick's home page describes multi-entity journal entries and automatic intercompany receivables and payables, and its plan table lists consolidated reports and an eliminations ledger. Digits' pages list no combined statements across businesses.
• Kick has a free plan for one entity up to 250 transactions a year. Digits has a trial and no free plan.
• Kick says an expert reviews its auto-categorization.

Worked example: three companies over a year

A company with real volume reaches the top of Kick's range, where Kick Plus ($200) costs about the same as three Digits Essentials ($195). The difference then comes from the features, not the price.

   Step 1: Count your companies and their yearly transactions. Past two companies, per-business pricing adds up fastest, and Kick's $50 applies only once an added company passes 250 transactions a year.

   Step 2: Decide whether Claude or ChatGPT should change your books or only read them. Only Kick can write.

   Step 3: List what else you need in the same product. Bill pay, invoicing and mobile apps point to Digits.

   Step 4: Ask each vendor for the export steps. Digits exports a ledger CSV and a financial package; Kick exports its general ledger as a spreadsheet.
