Kick vs QuickBooks accounting: price, several companies and agent access
Kick costs less for startups and for several companies: Basic is $40 a month, and Plus is $100 for unlimited companies, with $50 for each extra one past 250 transactions a year. QuickBooks Online charges every company in full, so three companies on Plus cost $420 a month. Kick's MCP lets Claude or ChatGPT write after a preview from the Basic plan. QuickBooks wins on payroll, payments, app integrations and the number of accountants who know it.

- Three companies cost $100 to $200 a month on Kick Plus and $420 on QuickBooks Plus, because QuickBooks needs a subscription per company.

- Kick's MCP can read and write from the Basic plan, after a preview and confirmation; Intuit's QuickBooks connector in Claude creates invoices and estimates for US customers.

Kick Plus covers unlimited entities. A new entity is free for its first 250 transactions a year, then $50 a month, so the top of each range assumes every extra company is busy. Kick bills Basic at $480 a year and Plus at $300 a quarter.
QuickBooks Plus includes 5 users and Essentials 3; Simple Start at $38 has 1 user and Advanced at $340 has 25. New customers get 50% off for 3 months or a 30-day trial.
Several companies: Kick keeps them in one account, QuickBooks keeps them apart
Kick's home page describes journal entries across entities and automatic intercompany receivables and payables, and its plan table lists consolidated reports and an eliminations ledger.
In QuickBooks Online, each company is its own file and subscription, and intercompany entries are posted in each file by hand. Combined books come with Intuit Enterprise Suite, which ERP Research, a third party, estimates at $7,800 to $15,000 or more a year. See QuickBooks for multiple companies.
Agent access: Kick's agent can post entries, QuickBooks' connector works on invoices
Kick runs a hosted MCP server. Its docs say it is read-only by default and asks for confirmation before any change; when you connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor you choose read-only or read and write, and which workspaces it can reach.
Intuit's QuickBooks connector in Claude and ChatGPT is for US customers. It reads reports and transactions and creates and updates invoices and estimates, with a confirmation before destructive actions. Intuit's open-source QuickBooks MCP server has 145 tools and runs on your own computer with a developer app. The QuickBooks MCP guide compares every option.
QuickBooks wins on payroll, payments, apps and accountants
- Payroll, payments and bill pay are sold inside QuickBooks. Kick connects to Gusto, Bill, Mercury, Ramp, Stripe and PayPal instead.
- Paid QuickBooks plans include 2 accountant users (3 on Advanced), and most US accountants already know it.
- QuickBooks has the largest set of apps that plug into the ledger.
- QuickBooks' trial is 30 days; Kick's is 14.
Choose in three questions
Step 1: How many companies? From the second one, Kick Plus costs less than QuickBooks Essentials, and far less than QuickBooks Plus.
Step 2: Should your agent write to the books? Kick lets it post entries after a preview; QuickBooks' hosted connector focuses on invoices and estimates.
Step 3: Does your accountant insist on QuickBooks, or do you need its payroll and payments? Then QuickBooks.
A third option is software where the agent writes and a person still approves big changes. See the Kick and QuickBooks comparisons.
Questions founders ask
Is Kick cheaper than QuickBooks?
For several companies, yes: three cost $100 to $200 on Kick Plus and $420 on QuickBooks Plus. For one company, QuickBooks Simple Start ($38) costs about the same as Kick Basic ($40).
Can Kick replace QuickBooks?
For bookkeeping, yes: Kick imports QuickBooks Online books automatically. You'd still need payroll and payments elsewhere, such as Gusto and Stripe.
Can Claude post entries in Kick or QuickBooks?
In Kick, yes, after a preview and your confirmation, from the Basic plan. Intuit's hosted QuickBooks connector creates invoices and estimates; its open-source server can do more but runs on your own computer.
Does QuickBooks do consolidated statements?
Only in Intuit Enterprise Suite. QuickBooks Online files are separate companies with no combined view.
Three companies for $198, and your agent writes with approval
Accountable Pro covers 2 companies for $149 a month and each extra is $49. On Pro, Claude or ChatGPT can categorize and post entries; changes of $5,000 or more and reopening a closed month wait for an owner, and every change can be undone.
