Take card payments on invoices

Open the invoicing settings, press Turn on next to Card payments, create a Stripe key with only Checkout Sessions, and paste it. Customers then pay on Stripe's own page, straight into your Stripe, and the invoice is marked paid.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open Bills and invoices › Invoices and press the gear for the invoicing settings.

  2. Step 2: Under Card payments, press Turn on.

  3. Step 3: Press Create the key in Stripe. Stripe opens with the name Accountable invoices and Checkout Sessions set to Write. Press Create key and copy it.

  4. Step 4: Paste the key and press Turn on card payments. We check it with Stripe and keep it encrypted.

  5. Step 5: New invoices offer Card (Stripe) under Collect by, and your customer's invoice page shows Pay by card or bank.

Good to know

  • The key can only open payment pages: it can't refund, pay out or read anything else in your Stripe.
  • Create it in the same Stripe account your sales go to, so the payment and its payout match in your books.
  • A payment is marked on the invoice when the customer comes back from Stripe, or within 15 minutes if they close the tab. A bank debit counts when it clears.
  • To stop, press Turn off. Invoices go back to bank transfer, and you can delete the key in Stripe.
