Change a transaction's category

Click the transaction, pick a new Category in its panel, and tick Always categorize this vendor this way if you want a rule. Changes in open months apply at once.

In Accountable: TransactionsUpdated September 29, 2026

Steps

  1. Step 1: Open Transactions and click the row. The side panel opens.

  2. Step 2: Pick the right account in Category. For an uncategorized row, press Use and the suggestion to accept it.

  3. Step 3: Tick Always categorize this vendor this way to make a rule for next time.

  4. Step 4: Press Apply to N similar to preview and change the same vendor's other transactions, then press Apply.

  5. Step 5: To rename the vendor, edit Vendor at the top of the panel. Future payments get the new name too.

Good to know

  • Every change shows a toast with Undo, and ⌘Z undoes the last one.
  • In a closed month, a new category needs an owner. Owners apply it at once; anyone else's change goes to Approvals.
