Move your books from any general ledger or spreadsheet

Any general ledger with a date, an account, and debit and credit columns works, as CSV or Excel up to 30 MB. Pick Spreadsheet as your old tool and upload it.

Before you start

  • A general ledger file with one row per line: date, account, description, and debit and credit (or one signed amount).

Steps

  1. Step 1: Export the general ledger from your old tool as CSV or Excel. In a spreadsheet, keep one row per line of each entry.

  2. Step 2: In Accountable, press ⌘K and choose Move books from Digits, QuickBooks or a spreadsheet. Pick Move my books, choose Spreadsheet under From and press Continue.

  3. Step 3: Drop the file on Drop your general ledger here, or choose a file. Accountable recognizes whether each file is a general ledger, chart of accounts, bank statement, balance sheet or profit and loss.

  4. Step 4: If it says None of these is a general ledger yet, check the file has date, account and amount columns, then upload it again.

  5. Step 5: Press Start the move, answer the questions, then press Continue and Go live.

What Accountable does with the file

  • Reads every entry, account and vendor, and rebuilds your chart of accounts and history in a draft. Nothing is in your books until you press Go live.
  • Checks every month-end, account by account, against your old tool's own numbers and your bank and card statements. A month ties only when the difference is exactly $0.00.
  • Asks you about each month that doesn't tie, one question at a time, with the fix it suggests.
  • Lets you undo the whole move for 30 days after you go live.

Good to know

  • Files can be .csv, .xlsx or .txt, up to 30 MB each.
  • Add bank and card statements for the proof: they let Accountable check every month-end against the bank, not just your old numbers.
