Move your books from Xero
Run Xero's General Ledger Detail report for your whole history, export it to Excel, and upload it with the chart of accounts. Every month-end is checked against Xero.
Steps
Step 1: In Xero, go to Reporting › All reports and open General Ledger Detail.
Step 2: Pick all Accounts and a Date range from your first transaction to the last month-end, then click Update.
Step 3: Under Columns, add Account code and Account Type. Set Grouping/Summarizing to None for one flat list.
Step 4: Click Export and choose Excel.
Step 5: For the chart of accounts, go to Accounting › Chart of accounts and click Export.
Step 6: For the proof, run Reporting › All reports › Trial Balance for the last month-end, use Compare with to add past periods, and export it too.
Step 7: In Accountable, press ⌘K and choose Move books from Digits, QuickBooks or a spreadsheet. Pick Move my books, choose Xero under From and press Continue.
Step 8: On Bring your old books, drop the file on Drop your general ledger here, or choose a file. Add the chart of accounts and bank statements too if you have them.
Step 9: Press Start the move. You can leave the page; the move keeps going.
Step 10: Answer each question that appears, then press Continue and Go live.
What Accountable does with the file
- Reads every entry, account and vendor, and rebuilds your chart of accounts and history in a draft. Nothing is in your books until you press Go live.
- Checks every month-end, account by account, against your old tool's own numbers and your bank and card statements. A month ties only when the difference is exactly $0.00.
- Asks you about each month that doesn't tie, one question at a time, with the fix it suggests.
- Lets you undo the whole move for 30 days after you go live.
Good to know
- You need the administrator, standard + reports or viewer role in Xero to run these reports.
